Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from Pop Pie Co.
For many all over the world, the scent of a buttery pastry turning golden in the oven is a quintessential holiday sense memory. For us at Pop Pie Co., that scent is a part of our daily lives. As the year draws to its close, we are thankful to our customers who love our pies and brought them to their homes, office holiday parties, gave them to loved ones as gifts – or even had them as a little gift to themselves. And like our customers, the classic scents, sights and sounds of Christmas conjure up warm holiday memories.
When I was a kid, my mother used to dress me up as Santa Claus and she'd have me hand out gifts to all the other children. It was quite a funny sight. I'd get through handing out all the toys, making all the kids happy and then I'd start handing out the not-so-exciting gifts. I remember giving a bundle of socks to one of my younger cousins and he immediately started crying. I took my job as Santa so seriously that I'd try to help the moms convince their kids to stop crying and see the beauty in the gift. Half a world away, Chef Gan was also being requested by his high school to don the Santa get-up and hand out candy to all the kids! Like me, Gan took the job very seriously, doing his best to embody the spirit and joy of the jolly man in red.
It’s no surprise that as owners of Pop Pie Co today, Gan and I take our craft and business as seriously as our Santas, knowing our customers are expecting a quality experience from ordering at the register, to the final delicious bite. And it’s definitely a bonus for us if around our meals, people experience joy, comfort, and togetherness.
We can't thank the residents of University Heights and the neighboring communities enough for embracing our concept. Your now-familiar faces and families coming in week in and week out to make us a part of your daily routine, means the world to us. Whether or not you realize it, you have contributed to the strong sense of community within our shop and with our excellent team, recruited carefully for their amazing abilities that together bring our pie life mission to great success. A lot of what we've done has been somewhat against the grain of how things in our industry typically go. We recently added health benefits to continue emphasizing the values that we strongly believe in: namely, we seek to invest in our employees so that they embrace this as a career opportunity. Our principles of community and family are very important to us. They are the center of everything we do, the delicious filling of this pie-shaped business.
As those and many other beautiful reflections come to mind, we hope you have enjoyed this season with your loved ones. Whatever you may celebrate, this season is about the conscientiousness and the nostalgia that come naturally to us as the year changes and we recall what matters most. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from the Pop Pie Co. team, Chef Gan, and me.
Sincerely,
Steven Torres
